Why the Algerianist Society?

The Algerianist manifesto

In 1973 the Algerianist Society published a manifesto designed to publicize its objectives and the spirit in which it intends to reach them.

Because we loved Algeria

Because we loved France as a mother figure, France which had helped us transform and keep in its bosom this Algeria it was now rejecting…

Because we were twenty years old and because we had faith in victory, because we were strong in the victorious fights and united in the setbacks, exile and prisons…

Now that time has passed, now that exile has scattered us and weakened us and before the community disintegrates completely…

We create a society

To protest against the official history of French presence in Algeria such as the one presented by those who forced us into exile.

To increase our knowledge of the Algerian past enabling us thus to know ourselves better, to rediscover the originality of the culture which was emerging in Algeria and to spread the work of "algerianist" writers.

To give the "French Algeria" community a new strength, to test our faith.

We create an ALGERIANIST SOCIETY to save from oblivion what little remains of our magnificent and cruel past.
